In a post on X, user Zac Bowden downloaded the newest Windows 11 beta update and gave it a try on their touchscreen. Turns out, there’s a new effect that trails behind your finger as you move it around, which looks like little bubbles.
People arrived in the replies to share their thoughts on this design choice. For the most part, it’s negative; one person described the effect as akin to “defect monitor ghosting” and preferred the previous line, while another simply posted a thumbs-down emoji.
However, that’s not to say that the new effect received unanimous negative reviews. One person stood up and stated that, actually, they thought the new touchscreen trail looked just fine.
Regardless of if you like the bubbles or not, I’m hoping that Microsoft at least allows people to change the trail to the old version if they so desire. There’s nothing wrong with new additions and tweaks if people can freely return to the old and familiar. However, if Microsoft is forcing this new change on everyone, then I can understand the distaste for it.
